About the role

The Educational Interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and ensuring accessibility for students and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Responsibilities

• participating in educational team meetings to develop and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
• providing interpreting services to help students access the curriculum
• conveying all auditory, verbal, and environmental information during school activities
• handling voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice translation
• offering cued speech transliteration
• supporting communication during various school events, both during and outside school hours
• mentoring new interpreters
• preparing for assignments
• providing in-service education
• serving as a resource on sign language and cultural understanding
• assisting deaf or hard of hearing employees during professional activities
• maintaining confidentiality and professional ethical standards
