About the Program

An Educational Development Plan (EDP) is a tool students use to set goals and plan for their future. It helps them explore careers, identify their interests and strengths, and make informed choices about classes, college, or job training. Students update their EDP each year, and parents are encouraged to review it with them to stay involved in their planning.

TSD will be utilizing Pathful for students K-5 and Xello for students 6-12.

Xello (Grades 6-12)

Xello focuses on self-discovery, allowing students to learn about their interests, set goals, and explore careers and education paths. Parents can view their child’s progress and help guide conversations at home.

  • Career and skill matching tools
  • Engaging career exploration activities
  • Access to educational planning resources for different careers
  • Tools for setting and tracking student goals
  • Personalized programs of study to guide each student through high school

Xello is built on a four-step model that engages students in future planning:

  • Build Self Knowledge: Students define their interests, skills, preferences, and aspirations so they can explore the opportunities right for them.
  • Explore Options: Students learn about career possibilities and educational pathways by exploring rich, engaging content and lessons.
  • Create a Plan: Students create dynamic, actionable plans that outline the steps needed to achieve school, career, and life goals.
  • Learn and Reassess: As students gain experience, knowledge, and skills, they can reassess and change their plans for the future.

Oakland Schools requires administering an Impact Survey to students once they complete their EDP. Students must complete the 5 required questions using the appropriate form:

  • 2025-2026 Xello Impact Measure Survey (Middle School)
  • 2025-2026 Xello Impact Measure Survey (High School)

Pathful Junior (Grades K-5)

Pathful Junior is a fun, web-based program that helps K–5 students explore careers through interactive lessons, videos, and games. It connects classroom learning to real-world jobs, making subjects like math and reading more meaningful. The platform supports all types of learners with read-aloud features and visuals and builds important skills like critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy.

Pathful Junior is aligned with education standards, easy for teachers to track progress, and allows students to share what they’re learning with family. It makes early career exploration engaging, accessible, and age-appropriate.
