Job Summary

The job of "Educational Assistant - High School - Textbook" is done to insure the smooth and efficient operation of the Library/Media Center and to help provide students and staff members with the best library/media services available.

Responsibilities

  • Aid students and staff with resources for research (both computerized and print)
  • Maintain and be knowledgeable of Media Center equipment (computers, copy machine, printers, scanners)
  • Operate standard office equipment
  • Assist staff in scheduling classes and help locate resources for use
  • Aid students with classroom assignments
  • Organize and implement annual Media Center Freshman orientation
  • Annually inventory library materials and complete end-of-year final inventory reports
  • Organize student aides and helpers
  • Monitor students and take disciplinary action when needed
  • Supervise circulation desk
  • Train and supervise student aides and parent volunteers
  • Maintain automated circulation system
  • Shelve and file materials
  • Repair library materials
  • Maintain Media Center utilization statistics
  • Process materials for use in the Library/Audio Visual center
  • Assist with Library supply orders and inventory
  • Maintain overdue records and prepare fine/overdue notices
  • Process and distribute required patron and item reports
  • Maintain bulletin boards, display cases and book displays, assist with library promotions
  • Aids with the transportation needs of students, including walking them to and from the bus, supervision of tudents on the way to and from the bus, supervision of loading and unloading of busses, arranging for the transportation needs of students
  • Prompt and regular attendance

Qualifications

  • Prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school-age children
  • Basic clerical functions, basic arithmetic calculations, operating standard office equipment, using English in verbal and written form, using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes
  • Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions, maintaining confidentiality of student records, meeting schedules and deadlines, reading/interpreting/ applying rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learning methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations
  • Significant physical abilities including reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity
  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal system and automated library systems helpful

Education

  • Highly Qualified Status pursuant to Federal No Child Left Behind guidelines

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing

  • Fingerprinting and Criminal History Check
  • Current First Aid card

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to: sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods
  • Talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment
  • Use precise control of fingers and hand movement, often in a repetitive motion such as keyboarding
  • Reach for and handle objects
  • Use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds may also be required on occasion

Other Job Functions

  • Cross-trains in a variety of school functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Confer with teachers and administrators for the purpose of assisting in evaluations of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives
  • Participates in various meetings to share information and/or improving skills/knowledge
  • Aids with the transportation needs of students, including supervision of students to and from the bus, supervision of loading and unloading of busses, and arranging for the transportation needs of students

Application Deadline

In-District Bargaining Unit Members: August 5, 2026. If the position is not filled with a bargaining unit member, outside applicants will be considered thereafter until filled. Projected Start Date: Approximately August 18, 2026. Exact date to be determined by the district.

Salary Range

Salary Range 11 $23.65 to $32.40/hour
