Temporary Academic Assistant
We are seeking a 9-month Temporary Academic Assistant to provide academic support to student-athletes in a professional and collaborative environment. This role promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, adhering to the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, and policies, as well as University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
- Provides intensive academic support and assistance for assigned students in small group or one-on-one settings.
- Facilitates the student-athlete’s academic transition to college and motivates engagement in academic life.
- Teaches academic integrity, executive skills (e.g., goal setting, time management, note-taking, study skills, test-taking, organization, prioritization, and communication), and how to develop specific, measurable academic objectives.
- Confirms class attendance through note checking and holds students accountable to meeting times, behavior expectations, and academic goals.
- Facilitates student progression through the established academic tier system.
- Composes detailed session reports using the preferred digital system and communicates urgent issues to staff immediately.
- Maintains an appropriate study hall environment, ensuring students work on scheduled academic objectives and assignments.
- Communicates regularly with Herbst Academic Center staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
This is a 100% in-person, student-facing role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/combination of education and experience.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, counseling, or providing academic support to students.
Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to assess student learning needs and strengths.
- Ability to develop tailored teaching materials and objectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Commitment to academic integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to University, Big 12, and NCAA policies.
- Cultural competence and professional maturity.
Pay
$18.90 per hour.
Schedule
This is a temporary, in-person position supporting the Herbst Academic Center through May 2027. Hours vary.
