About the Roles

The district is hiring for two positions:

  • Educational Assistant: 3.65 hours/day, 182 days/year. Salary range: $22.29 to $30.54/hour.
  • Health Assistant: 2.0 hours/day, 182 days/year. Salary range: $22.96 to $31.47/hour.

Educational Assistant

Position Summary

The Instructional Assistant provides educational support through supervision and instruction of students under the direction of licensed staff. This role assists the licensed teacher by planning and implementing instructional programs for students who are not in categorical programs (e.g., special education, ELL) and completing routine clerical tasks.

Qualifications

  • Experience Required: Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, with school-age children.
  • Education Required: Completed associate’s or higher degree, or at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more), or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment.
  • Licenses/Certifications Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and First Aid/CPR card.

Skills

  • Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional practices.
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and computer applications (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
  • Ability to perform basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations.
  • Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing (e.g., correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions.
  • Capacity to rapidly learn methods and materials used in instructional situations.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance and direction of the licensed teacher with access to assistance and consultation.
  • Collaborate with teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth.
  • Provide instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
  • Perform record-keeping and basic clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support teachers in maintaining student files and classroom materials.
  • Confer with teachers to provide feedback on student performance.
  • Support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • Promote student safety through the application of district student management and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor individual students, classroom, and/or playground activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Recognize escalating/emergency situations, call for help, and defuse/assist until help arrives.
  • Evaluate situations to take appropriate action and/or direct to the appropriate personnel for resolution.

Other Job Functions

  • Cross-train in a variety of school functions and assist other personnel as needed.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, materials, and student files.
  • Administer first aid and medical assistance for ill or injured children.
  • Confer, under teacher supervision, with teachers, parents, and community agency personnel to assist in evaluating student progress.
  • Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
  • Assist with student transportation needs, including bus supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor within the scope of the job.

  • Precise control of fingers and hand movements (e.g., keyboarding).

Health Assistant

Position Summary

The School Health Assistant assists school personnel with specific student health issues and performs clerical duties for the Health Room. This position handles sensitive and confidential issues, requiring excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience Required: Prior job-related experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses/Certifications Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance; Current First Aid/CPR Certificates.

Skills

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations related to assigned school and statistical record-keeping.
  • Understanding of customer service principles, protocols, and methods.
  • Proficiency in operating medical equipment (e.g., digital thermometers, nebulizers, glucometers, insulin pens/syringes, scales, inhalers, AEDs, auto-injectors).
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and computer applications (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
  • Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing (e.g., correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation).
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Self-starter who works well independently or in a team.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic first aid and emergency care for illness or injury; refer emergencies to district nurse, administration, parents, or emergency personnel.
  • Monitor student health status during periods of short-term rest or recovery in the health room.
  • Collect and maintain data and records on student health issues as required by district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide delegated healthcare tasks for students with chronic health problems under the direction of the school nurse.
  • Administer medication to students following district and school protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of medication and notify nurse/parents of updates (e.g., orders, refills, expired medication).
  • Assist with health screenings and prepare medications, supplies, and precautions for field trips.
  • Monitor students in various settings (e.g., classroom, transportation, field trips) to provide care as defined by student health plans.
  • Maintain and update student health records, including health histories, immunizations, and tuberculosis data.
  • Compose reports and documents for administrators and staff regarding student health issues.
  • Manage health-related referrals from school staff.
  • Process documents and materials to disseminate information to appropriate parties.
  • Order necessary supplies for the health room.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student health issues.
  • Assist with physically transferring students from wheelchairs, mats, or other positioning equipment.

Other Job Functions

  • Cross-train in a variety of office functions and assist other personnel as needed.
  • Perform general office duties (e.g., answering phones, directing calls, taking messages, preparing/distributing forms and correspondence, ordering supplies).
  • Perform selected tasks from the School Health Management Plan as delegated and supervised by the Registered Nurse.
