Essential Job Functions

• Affords assistance and learning support to students during classroom and school-wide learning activities.
• Provides instruction to students as per the supervising teacher's guidance and reinforces skills to aid in mastering concepts and skills introduced by the teacher.
• Evaluates students' work objectively and reinforces skills based on instructional guidelines.
• Utilizes professionally developed positive behavior strategies to manage student behavior and maintain classroom and school-wide order.
• Participates in the development of communication and progressive learning skills, identifying students' learning deficiencies, and documenting learning activities.
• Assists in the preparation of learning materials and instructional resources and the classroom environment.
• Prepares instructional reports and completes required forms, schedules, records, and other data as necessary.
• Maintains awareness of current technology and practices used by SPS and updates job-related knowledge.
• Attends meetings and in-services as required.
• Enforces school rules and responds to emergency situations.
• Attends training and maintains certification in district-offered physical management and verbal de-escalation techniques.
• Performs monitoring duties as assigned.
• Adheres to universal health precautions to prevent illness and infections and uses proper body mechanics when interacting with students and moving heavy objects.
• Maintains confidentiality of student records.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative, congenial, and supportive working relationships with colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates Degree preferred
