About the role

Kirtland Local Schools is seeking an Educational Aide for the 2026-2027 school year. Full-time employment includes benefits eligibility. The position reports to the Principal and/or assigned Teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Support the academic program and instructional activities under the guidance of the assigned teacher
  • Work with small groups and/or individual students
  • Acquire basic proficiency in skills that support student needs
  • Help students with remedial and/or enrichment activities
  • Reinforce instructional objectives introduced by the teacher
  • Perform clerical work related to classroom activities
  • Prepare and distribute classroom materials
  • Maintain records as directed
  • Help keep program areas orderly
  • Sanitize equipment as directed
  • Utilize safe work practices for self and others
  • Aid in the supervision of students throughout the day
  • Facilitate community participation in activities that enhance student learning
  • Respond to student requests for assistance
  • Prepare for the support of the student
  • Implement prescribed behavior plans and provide specific accommodations
  • Help feed students
  • Comply with personal hygiene rules and standard sanitation procedures
  • Participate in staff development activities, parent conferences, team meetings, and staff meetings
  • Maintain complete and accurate records
  • Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law
  • Work with the classroom teacher to address persistent behavior problems
  • Ride the bus to monitor student behavior and/or physical well-being implementing behavior plans and seizure action plans, as necessary
  • Ability to work respectfully with a culturally diverse population of students

Requirements

  • High school diploma, college education, or degree
  • Licensure through the State Board of Education (Aide Permit)
  • Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
  • Participate in required training
  • Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  • Embody high ethical standards and integrity
  • Accept responsibility for decisions and conduct
  • Adhere to Educational Service Center (ESC) Governing Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff handbook, policies of an assigned worksite, and to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators
  • Secure and maintain appropriate licensures required
  • Report Misconduct, Vandalism, Equipment Malfunctions, And Other Concerns
  • Advance the professional image of the service center and affiliated school districts
  • Establish professional relationships with coworkers and function as a part of a cohesive team
  • Commitment to keep current with workplace innovations that enhance personal productivity
  • Exhibit consistent, impartial, and resourceful critical-thinking skills
  • Proficient in office protocols, data entry, spelling, proofreading, and the correct use of grammar
  • Demonstrate dependability/flexibility and react productively to interruptions/emerging priorities
  • Give thorough attention to detail and effective customer service
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual
  • Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law
  • Cross-train with other staff, participates in meetings, and attend professional development in-services
  • Maintain confidentiality of information relating to students
  • Ability to keep work skills updated
  • Ability to accept new responsibilities/assignments
  • Ability to use technology
  • Ability to hear and see accurately, speak, write, and be understood
  • Ability to interact comfortably and confidently with the public

Qualifications

  • Physical ability to use physical holds and utilize with youth ages 5-18
  • Operate and/or ride in a vehicle
  • Work at various heights, in confined spaces, and/or in variable/diminished lighting
  • Work in proximity to moving mechanical parts
  • Balance, bend, crouch, kneel, reach, and stand
  • Lift, carry, and move work-related supplies and/or equipment
  • Occasionally move up to 50 lbs

Skills

  • Basic proficiency in skills that support student needs (e.g., sign language, fingerspelling, etc.)
  • Ability to work respectfully with a culturally diverse population of students
