Educational Aide (Special Education).
Responsibilities
- Monitor students during various phases of the school day.
- Provide assistance in toileting, feeding, eating, and personal hygiene.
- Support educational efforts in the Special Education classroom and general education classroom as needed.
- Perform administrative tasks such as attendance records, filing, scheduling, and reviewing assignments.
- Work with students in accordance with plans developed by specialists and educators.
- Participate in Parent-Teacher conferences.
- Prepare instructional materials related to classroom lessons.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks due to duties involving interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18).
- A two-year trial period may be required.

To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Experience required: At least one year of general experience, defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of an Educational Aide.
Education Substitution
- Qualifying based on education alone: 2 years (60 semester hours) of education above high school may substitute for general experience.
- Qualifying based on a combination of education and general experience: A combination may be used if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Divide total months of qualifying experience by 12 and semester hours of undergraduate education by 60, then add the two percentages.
For foreign degrees and coursework from non-accredited institutions, credits or degrees must be evaluated prior to acceptance. Three evaluation procedures are acceptable:
- Evaluation by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
- Evaluation by a foreign institution endorsed by a regionally accredited university or state department of education for teacher certification (requires an English translation of the transcript and degree document).
- Evaluation by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university, declaring equivalency to U.S. undergraduate or graduate work.

- Permanent Educational Aide positions working over 32 hours per week may require pay spread per local bargaining unit.
