The Museum of Science strives to equip and inspire everyone to use science for the global good while keeping up with the pace of change. Located in Boston and Cambridge, we engage nearly five million people annually through exhibits, online, and community programs.
Why We Need You
- Support the Museum as it moves towards its 2030 vision and attendance goals of 2M visitors annually.
- Teach in the Public Science Common – the world’s premier stage for science learning.
- Teach various STEM programming regularly each week across all education channels.
- Deliver programming in specialized Museum environments such as the Engineering Design Workshop and the Planetarium.
- Learn and help develop new programming across all education channels.
- Collaborate with others in the department to help maintain educational areas or critical resources.
- Learn to teach responsibly and safely using Museum resources.
- Travel offsite to visit schools or communities as needed.
- Work a weekend day on a Sunday-Thursday schedule.
- Occasionally work a flexible schedule, including some holidays, some evenings, and at various other times to accommodate serving guests during school vacations, evening programs, and other special projects and requests.
Schedule
This opportunity is a full-time (40 hr/week) position available starting September 8, 2026, ending Labor Day 2027 with the option to extend for a second year until Labor Day 2028.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Learn, develop, and deliver educational programming daily/weekly that exemplifies educational excellence and guest service to engage and excite our audiences in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
- Participate in the creation of new and engaging programming for all education channels.
- Support the maintenance/management of educational materials and education spaces (stages, studios, classrooms, etc.) and the various equipment used.
- Perform assigned duties, personal projects, and studies to gain a greater understanding and insight into learning in informal settings.
- Participate in institutional-wide learning, initiatives, and professional development activities.
- Respond in real time to guest questions and concerns in the exhibit halls.
- Act as a representative of the Museum in the community.
- Perform other work-related duties as required by the Manager.
What We’re Looking For (Competencies)
- Education: Post-high school coursework, technical degree, associate's degree, business or vocational certificate.
- Experience: One (1) year or more in a STEM field or education background.
- Communication Skills: Verbal/oratory and written.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- STEM Knowledge: Content knowledge in a STEM field is preferred.
- Driving: Valid driver's license and willingness to drive in various settings.
- Bilingual/Multilingual: Strong preference for bilingual or multilingual candidates, especially those able to deliver educational programming in Spanish or another language prevalent in the greater Boston area.
- Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting/carrying of items weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, visual acuity, depth perception.
Salary Range
$25 - $25 USD
