This is an exempt, full-time (40 hours per week) position based at the DMC office on the campus of The American Village in Montevallo, Alabama. Supervisory duties will include any assigned interns or student workers. This position reports to the DMC Executive Director.

About the role

The Education Coordinator works with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to administer and manage the DMC’s signature programming reaching Alabama K-12 students, undergraduates, teachers, and faculty; researches, develops, and authors relevant resources for the DMC’s educational programming; provides general oversight of a community-based internship program; and assists in the development and execution of other events and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and sustain partnerships that equip Alabama educators to bring quality civics-forward instruction to their classrooms and campuses
  • Equip students with tools and strategies to influence positive change in the communities to which they belong
  • Develop civic-education resources, including historic and contemporary deliberation guides, for classroom and community use
  • Manage the applications and selection process, execution, and all reporting aspects of the Jean O’Connor-Snyder Internship Program—the DMC’s signature education initiative on Alabama college campuses
  • Conduct annual teacher workshops on deliberation in the classroom, place-based learning, and related topics
  • Author reports, articles, digital newsletter content, and social media posts related to the work of the DMC as needed
  • Assist in the planning and execution of other DMC programs, operations, and events, including quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors and the annual Civic Institute
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education, Social Sciences, History, or related field
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to travel (primarily within the state of Alabama), use personal vehicle, and work occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a K-12 or collegiate classroom
  • Knowledge of current Alabama course of study standards
  • Familiarity with the tenets of public deliberation, service learning, and civic education

Pay

Salary range: $47,000.00 – $58,000.00 (dependent upon qualifications)
