Editorial Associate
CBS News’ 60 Minutes is seeking a highly detail-oriented Editorial Associate to support a Senior Producer across editorial review and administrative functions. This role is integral to upholding the program’s reputation for rigorous, in-depth journalism.
About the role
The Editorial Associate works with the Senior Producer to evaluate broadcast segments and related content to ensure accuracy, fairness, context, and adherence to CBS News Standards. This position requires well-developed analytical skills, sound editorial judgment, strong writing skills, and the ability to process complex subject matter under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Senior Producer to review, edit, and verify a range of editorial assets, including:
- broadcast scripts
- interview transcripts
- fact-checking and other research material
- digital, social, and online content for 60 Minutes segments
- Read and take notes on hundreds of pages of interview and research content per week.
- Assess fact-checking materials for quality of sourcing and support of factual claims.
- Maintain tracking systems to monitor segment progress, including editorial changes and fact-checking status.
- Organize and manage incoming materials (e.g., transcripts, scripts, research) within shared databases.
- Attend editorial meetings and screenings as part of the editorial review process.
- Review Rights & Clearances logs and flag potential risks or gaps.
- Provide general administrative, operational and research support as needed.
- Review internal and external requests related to 60 Minutes archival materials.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional journalism experience.
- Experience in fact checking for print or broadcast journalism, researching complex subject matter (e.g., legal, scientific, economic topics) and/or in supporting investigative or long-form reporting.
- Exemplary attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of complex information into clear findings.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Availability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by production schedules.
- Must be able to work on-site in New York, NY; this is not a remote position.
Pay
Hiring salary range: $75,000.00 - 95,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
