About the role
Penguin Random House LLC is seeking an Editorial Assistant for Storehouse Voices, a newly established imprint of the Crown Publishing Group. Storehouse Voices aims to elevate stories from under-published voices, focusing on fiction and nonfiction that interrogate and reimagine our past and future.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison between editorial, internal departments, authors, and agents throughout the publication process.
- Supports editors with meeting cross-departmental deadlines for frontlist titles and upcoming reprints.
- Supports the editorial team with author care and outreach for title interest and visibility.
- Tracks and evaluates a high volume of submissions, reads projects under contract, writes reader's reports and rejection letters, and researches competitive titles.
- Aids in mailings, expense reports, contract initiation and routing, P&L creation, advance payment tracking, processes development, prepares for launch presentations, and handles various administrative tasks.
- Maintains calendar maintenance and virtual/in-person meeting coordination.
- Circulates and takes meeting minutes for editorial review board.
- Tranports manuscripts and accompanying materials, tracks permissions and missing items in manuscript, and submits titles for legal reads.
- Drafts supporting materials for upcoming titles, including book announcements, title information sheets, galley copy, cover copy, website copy, and reading group guides.
- Works closely with production, design, marketing, publicity, rights, and sales departments to provide needed materials and assistance.
- Maintains key information and metadata in MyHouse, updating as needed.
- Supports the editorial team with special projects including on-site video shoots and annual events related to the Storehouse Voices incubator program.
- Manages title reprints and reprint corrections.
Qualifications
- At least one year of prior office experience or related internship is ideal.
- Keen attention to detail and proofreading ability.
- Ability to be organized and provide support in organizational implementation.
- Ability to anticipate needs and take initiative to solve problems.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced office environment.
- Excellent writing, reading, online research, and analytical skills.
- Outstanding project management skills, including ability to meet deadlines while juggling multiple ongoing projects.
- Strong communication and follow-up skills.
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills with capacity to manage multiple (and often competing) deadlines.
- Strong computer skills (with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Deep interest in and enthusiasm for commercial titles with awareness of the current adult market in nonfiction and fiction is a plus.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and engagement is a plus.
- Knowledge of project management software is a plus.
