About the Role
Gallery Books seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Editorial Assistant to support an Executive and Senior Editor. The role involves working on nonfiction (humor, memoir, pop culture, cookbooks, and celebrity memoir/essay collections) and fiction (including character-driven suspense, upmarket commercial fiction, rom-coms, women's fiction, and book club selections). The ideal candidate will be a voracious reader with a deep love of and interest in pop culture, particularly in celebrity nonfiction and commercial fiction.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing and evaluating manuscripts for acquisition
- General administrative duties, including organizing and scheduling meetings in MS Outlook
- Close and frequent communication with authors and agents by phone and email
- Expense tracking
- Handling all aspects of the production process
- Project research and fact-finding
Qualifications
- Familiarity with the book production process and publishing
- Meticulous attention to detail and top-notch organizational and prioritizing skills
- Ability to anticipate needs and take initiative to solve problems
- Capacity to manage multiple (and often competing) deadlines
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
Pay
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on a variety of job-related factors, including geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
