About the role

KTXL, FOX40 in Sacramento, California is seeking an Assignments Editor to lead daily newsgathering efforts across platforms.

Responsibilities

• Thrives on breaking news and enterprise storytelling
• Juggles multiple crews, deadlines, and platforms with precision and clarity
• Passionate about both the on-air product and the digital experience
• Inspires and guides a team of reporters, producers, anchors, and photographers
• Central hub of editorial operation
• Covers station wide planning calendar
• Manages shared contact database
• Makes connections with the communities we serve
• Manages assignments for reporters and photographers daily
• Checks in with crews throughout the day
• Manages breaking news coverage with the Managing Editor
• Runs twice daily news meetings
• Updates producers and anchors on the daily content
• Communicates clearly and confidently across all levels of the newsroom
• Has a sharp editorial sense and understands what makes a story resonate
• Is highly organized and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Thinks digitally and knows how to maximize reach and engagement online
• Led with optimism, collaboration, and a desire to grow others

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of newsroom experience, preferably in a leadership or coordination role
• Excellent, professional writing skills to correspond with officials and the public
• Stays on top of incoming emails to the station and discerns what qualifies as news content and what does not
• General working knowledge of the communities we serve
• Organizes content meetings for managers to decide upon future projects
• Manages comp logs to identify missed content

Benefits

Compensation - $24.00+/hr commensurate with experience and skill level
