Editor (Humanities)

About the role
The Editor will contribute to the development of new, culturally informed curriculum materials for K-12 humanities content. Using an educational background and curriculum knowledge, combined with on-the-job training in editorial processes and project management, the Editor will help create innovative instructional materials. Strong organization, time-management, and communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
- Contributes ideas during project planning.
- Researches and writes content for students as well as teacher support materials.
- Works with managers to learn job parameters and match state objectives to relevant content in the core program.
- Applies knowledge of state objectives and testing blueprints to content and evaluates vendor work.
- Learns and follows established procedures and company policies; seeks guidance when objectives or directions are unclear.
- Ensures completed assignments match project specifications and shows growth over time in response to supervisor feedback.
- Meets deadlines for all assignments and maintains positive communication with supervisors regarding feedback.
- Refers budget or schedule decisions to supervisors and provides accurate status updates on assignments.
Requirements
- Work experience or internships in education, publishing, or journalism.
- K-5 experience in publishing or education preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Graduate or undergraduate degree with majors or minors in history, economics, English, education, anthropology, ethnic studies, geography, second language acquisition, Spanish, translation, world language instruction, or related fields.
Skills
- Familiarity with today’s youth, popular culture, and motivators for learning, especially at the K-5 level (6-12 also desired).
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google equivalents.
- Knowledge of differentiation strategies, scaffolding for multilingual learners (MLL), and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Creative thinking to contribute to new product innovations.
- General familiarity with editing, grammar, and style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style).
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-confidence to actively participate in meetings and open forums.
- Ability to work with both detail-oriented precision and a broader understanding of project goals.

Pay
Hiring range: $64,000 - $80,000. This role may also be eligible for bonus or incentive compensation. Compensation is determined by skills, experience, budget, and internal equity.
