Editor
About the role
The Editor, 0-8 Publishing, will identify, acquire, and develop high-quality and commercial board books, novelty books, and select picture books for the Children’s Book Group, under the direction of the Editorial Director.
Responsibilities
- Acquire and edit 12-15 titles per year, focusing primarily on commercially-driven board books and novelty for the Cartwheel list.
- Proactively identify, evaluate, and pursue opportunities for new publishing and development/adaptation of new and existing IP, including active participation in collaborative ideation.
- Manage all stages of each title’s print/digital lifecycle, including review of all passes; coordination with production, design, and freelancers; drafting of copy and metadata; and maintenance of reprints/backlist.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally with marketing, publicity, sales, sub rights, and others.
- Work inter-divisionally with Scholastic Reading Events (Book Clubs and Book Fairs) to maximize commercial opportunities and meet corporate business goals.
- Establish and develop relationships with literary agents, authors, illustrators, and other partners.
- Negotiate terms directly with agents, licensors, packagers, and international publishers.
- Responsible for title-level P&L creation to meet profitability metrics for all projects.

Qualifications
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong editorial judgment, creative vision, and knowledge of market trends for 0-8 publishing
- Excellent communication and project management skills, including attention to detail and follow-up
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain publishing schedules, as well as to prioritize and multi-task across several projects simultaneously
- Proactive mindset and approach to project development
- Strong interest in novelty formats and innovation
- Experience: 3-5 years' working in children’s editorial
- Education: B.A.
