Editing Assistant II (Hybrid)

The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), published continuously since 1883, is an international peer-reviewed general medical journal. JAMA is a member of the JAMA Network family of journals, which includes 11 specialty journals and JAMA Network Open. The JAMA Network provides access to the research, reviews, and opinions shaping the future of medicine.
Responsibilities
- Edit and Review Accepted JAMA Network Manuscripts
- Process manuscripts, including tables, in accordance with the journal style, using the pre-editing and QC checklist, macros, and eXtyles;
- Maintain standards for priority, quality, timelines, and volume;
- Ensure that elements of each submission (such as authors, affiliations, and headings) conform with AMA style;
- Communicate with editorial staff and update manuscript tracking system (JPS);
- May Include Other Responsibilities As Assigned
Requirements
- High-school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of work experience required, experience in the publishing field preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat DC required.
- Experience with manuscript tracking system (eg, JPS) or similar software preferred.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including authors, editorial managers, and systems managers.
- High level of concentration required to edit and spend long hours in front of the computer.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, often under deadline pressure.
- Minimal travel required (less than 5%).

This role is a non-exempt position and the hourly range for this position is $23.63-$30.83. This is the lowest to highest rate we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. Employees are also eligible to participate in an incentive plan.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $23.63-$30.83.
Schedule
This role is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.
