Position Summary

The Emergency Department Technician’s primary responsibility is to facilitate patient flow. The ED Technician provides basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. They may perform selected procedures as defined in the Patient Care Standards Manual. Patient care would include: obtaining vital signs, placing patients in exam rooms, obtaining specimens, preparing, assisting patients for clinician evaluation, and assisting clinicians. They will see that the area is orderly, well stocked with supplies and equipment is ready for use.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Provide basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Perform selected procedures as defined in the Patient Care Standards Manual
  • Obtain vital signs
  • Place patients in exam rooms
  • Obtain specimens
  • Prepare and assist patients for clinician evaluation
  • Absorb and assist clinicians
  • Ensure the area is orderly, well stocked with supplies, and equipment is ready for use

Requirements

  • Previous medical training such as EMT or Military Corpsman OR six months emergency department or pre-hospital experience
  • One year experience on an ambulance or in an emergency department
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public
  • Sensitivity for the hospitalized patient and family
  • Ability to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Analytical and grammatical skills to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Utilization of clerical and computer skills for a variety of support functions
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills essential

Qualifications

  • Education / Training / Experience: Previous medical training such as EMT or Military Corpsman OR six months emergency department or pre-hospital experience Desired: One year experience on an ambulance or in an emergency department

  • Technical competence and capable of using electronic medical records and centralized monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Professional and effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, and public

  • Ability to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Analytical and grammatical skills to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
