About the role
Under the general supervision of a supervising Psychiatrist and reporting to the Director of psychiatric APC's, this position requires a clinician skilled in patient evaluation and implementation of treatment regimes for a designated psychiatric patient population.
Responsibilities
- Takes initial history, performs physical assessments, prepares psychosocial evaluation and care plans, including management of risk.
- Consults with physicians, psychiatrists, and other clinical staff members as necessary.
- Diagnoses health and developmental problems.
- Provides services to a specific patient population.
- Provides advanced practice nursing care to patients suffering from acute or chronic mental health problems, managing therapeutic regimes according to protocols.
- Identifies risk factors and implements appropriate prevention and intervention.
- Provides psychotherapeutic intervention, including crisis intervention, and health teaching to clients.
- Identifies patient teaching needs and plans for education process.
- Coordinates referrals and facilitates transfers.
- Provides psychopharmacologic/intervention services.
- Assists in the development of protocols for a specific psychiatric patient population.
- Works collaboratively with selected disciplines to develop integrated care plans for the psychiatric patient population throughout the continuum.
- Acts as a clinical resource to other nursing staff in the area of specialization.
- Plans and participates in staff education programs.
- Provides consultative liaison services.
- Utilizes appropriate community resources and is knowledgeable of them.
- Participates in community outreach as appropriate to describe the mental health program.
- Coordinates the delivery of care with other clinical staff, consulting and collaborating as appropriate.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with providers of psychiatric and mental health services, including South Shore Hospital’s psychiatric staff.
- Maintains standards for certification in specialty role.
- Performs all required responsibilities/duties addressing the ages of the patients served if responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients.
- Weekend, holiday, and occasional weekday coverage required.
Requirements
- BSN and Master’s Degree in psychiatric nursing or related field.
- Current certification in specialty through the American Nurses Association with authorization to practice in the expanded role.
- License to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the expanded role.
- Certified Nurse Practitioner - Board of Registration in Nursing (Massachusetts).
Qualifications
- Minimum four (4) to five (5) years of acute psychiatric nursing and crisis evaluation/intervention experience.
Pay
Pay Range: $90.00 - $110.00 per hour
