Position Summary

Under the administrative direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, utilizes principles of outpatient/emergency care management to provide for the delivery of patient care to individuals and families with emergent/urgent/outpatient needs. Provides administrative direction to development and evaluation of all ER Techs and Nursing personnel assigned to the Emergency and Cardiopulmonary Department. Works with medical staff in the development of standards of care. Contributes to nursing and the CQCH organization through support of philosophy and objectives, education efforts and research efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Provides for the delivery of safe, economical and efficient nursing care.
  • Captivates care with interdisciplinary team.
  • Acts as liaison between patient, family and physician/medical provider.
  • Sets specific standards and objectives for the Emergency Department and Outpatient treatment functions of the facility.
  • Recruits, interviews and selects staff accordingly.
  • Communicates changes in policy and procedure and other appropriate communication to staff and provides feedback from staff to the Nursing Administration.
  • Ensures that care is delivered to each patient according to standard and is documented in the clinical record.
  • Maintains proper equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains required records and reports.
  • Takes a leadership role in the development, review and revision of policy and procedure.
  • Provides for professional growth and development of patient care staff.
  • Actively participates in organization/nursing committees and in performance improvement activities.
  • Promotes an environment in which the patient care team can work cooperatively toward goals.
  • Serves as a clinical resource person and assists nursing personnel in developing basic and advanced skills in crisis management and emergency care.
  • Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and professional development.
  • Conducts yearly performance/competency evaluations for staff; conducts evaluations for new staff prior to completion of the three-month probationary period.
  • Counsels employees regarding employee health issues and provides referrals to outside resources as needed.
  • Participates in orientation and staff development for all new and continuing employees of the organization.
  • Maintains patient satisfactions scores and implements plans to improve them.
  • Investigates all SQSS report submissions regarding Med/Surg and completes “Just Do It” reports within 14 days.
  • Affirms confidentiality of patient records and information/HIPPA compliance.
  • Demonstrates an ability to organize and achieve quality performance, maximum productivity and efficiency to meet the daily routine and extraordinary demands of the job.
  • Constantly assesses the working environment for potential occupational health hazards and recommends appropriate changes.
  • Promotes an environment in which the patient care team can work cooperatively toward goals.
  • Participates in the Nursing Leadership call for weekend coverage.
  • Conducts bimonthly department meetings.
  • Posts agenda with minutes for anyone who cannot attend.
  • Acts as liaison for medical director of department and executive nursing leadership.
  • Responsible for regularly reviewing existing policies and procedures.
  • Drafts new policies and procedures to reflect changes in standards and regulations according to the department’s needs.
