Economist II - Pricing, Profitability, Demand Forecasting Team
About the role
The Economist II - Pricing, Profitability, Demand Forecasting Team at Wayfair is seeking experienced economists to contribute to the development of key science components for pricing, market design, finance, and operations systems. The role focuses on three main skill sets: reduced form causal analysis, empirical industrial organization, and time series/forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Help price millions of products in a complex, two-sided marketplace.
- Measure the demand response to various business decisions, using both observational and experimental methods.
- Address supply-side questions, such as assessing supplier responses to changes in the design of the marketplace.
- Forecast demand and costs at scale using a combination of time series and machine learning techniques.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or PostDoc in Economics or a closely-related field (e.g., Marketing, Finance, OR, Statistics) with 0-1+ years of industry experience.
- Background in applied microeconomics, empirical industrial organization, time series, quantitative marketing, or econometrics.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience with SQL.
- Hands-on experience with big datasets.
- Ability to collaborate in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
- Passion for communicating complex material in a concise and precise way.
Qualifications
- Expected degree completion or PostDoc conclusion by Summer 2026.
Benefits
Annual Base Pay: USD 176,000.00 - USD 184,250.00. The range may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional compensation may include equity, bonuses, commissions, and other forms of compensation.

Schedule
Hybrid work schedule with designated days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and remote work on Mondays and Fridays. This role is also open to sit in Toronto, Seattle, or Mountain View.
