About the role

The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) Business Opportunities Division seeks an Economic Development Specialist to manage critical business incentive programs, focusing on the State's premier business program, Missouri Works.

Responsibilities

  • Aid entities in applying for incentives earned as a result of creating jobs and making investments in the State.
  • Review applications from companies and determine eligibility in accordance with regulations and program guidelines.
  • Examine and verify project expenses in accordance with regulations and program guidelines.
  • Maintain databases and file information on programs and results.
  • Provide technical information and assistance to companies considering establishing a new business in the state or expanding current operations/facilities.
  • Participate in program policy research and development as new legislation is passed.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of professional experience with demonstrated knowledge in the business practices and principles in the Economic Development field.
  • This can be obtained through a combination of work experience and completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Economics, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis in denying consideration to any applicant.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations applicable to the assigned program area.
  • Considerable knowledge of business math computations; and grammar, composition and spelling.
  • Ability to make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Some knowledge of financial and tax management, economic development, accounting and auditing principles and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal, with all levels of public stakeholders and Department staff.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments without close supervision.
  • Prepare complete and concise reports.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and apply statutes, regulations and agency policies related to tax credit or grant programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers, project managers, public officials, community and neighborhood organizations, regional planning commissions and the general public.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.

$2,266.00 semi-monthly; $54,384.00 annual
