ECMO Specialist - UMMC - East Bank - .75 Night

Fairview is hiring an ECMO Specialist to join our team at our University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. This role is responsible for all aspects of ECMO and mechanical circulatory support, working in close partnership with bedside nurses and internally credentialed ECMO providers to ensure optimal patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Mechanical Circulatory and Extracorporeal Life Support to patients of all ages.
  • Practice at the level of an expert practitioner in nursing or respiratory care.
  • Assemble, monitor, and conduct assessments of all extracorporeal life support equipment, circuitry, and adjunct therapies (e.g., ultrafiltration, continuous A-V hemodialysis).
  • Participate in the evaluation of new equipment and implementation of new technology.
  • Mentor and train new ECMO Specialists and ECMO-trained nurses.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams in the delivery of patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members.
  • Provide excellent customer service by listening and understanding customer needs.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives by collecting and reviewing internal and external data to benchmark performance and promote best practices.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Nurse Track: Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN)
    • Respiratory Therapist Track: Graduate from a CoARC or JCRTE approved program in Respiratory Therapy and a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience: 3 years of critical care experience.
  • License/Certification/Registration:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Nurse Track: Minnesota RN License.
    • Respiratory Therapist Track: Respiratory Therapist License issued by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of critical care experience.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Additional Requirements

  • University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire.
  • University of Minnesota Medical Center: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 1 year of hire.

Schedule

  • 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks).
  • Every third weekend required.
  • 12-hour night shifts.
  • 2 call shifts per 6-week schedule.
  • Shift differential incentives:
    • $4.00/hr for nights.
    • $2.00/hr for weekends.

Pay

An individual's pay rate within the posted range may be determined by various factors, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, the organization prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, a sign-on bonus may be offered based on the approved program at the time of the offer.
