ECMO Specialist

An integral part of the critical-care team, actively participating in the department’s ECMO Training Program. This role develops and maintains the skills necessary to proficiently and safely manage extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technology, assists with procedures for acutely ill patients of all ages, and learns to troubleshoot devices and equipment under experienced supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, prepare, and maintain extracorporeal circuits and associated equipment with assistance.
  • Assist in priming extracorporeal circuits and preparing systems for clinical application.
  • Assist with cannulation procedures and establishing extracorporeal support.
  • Monitor patient response, provide routine assessments, circuit evaluations, patient monitoring, and manage anticoagulation.
  • Assist with ECMO circuit interventions, weaning procedures, and patient transports.
  • Administer blood products per hospital standards.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with caregivers, nursing, surgical and medical teams, patients, and family members.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the patient’s electronic health record.
  • Participate in professional development, simulation, and continuing education.
  • Attend ECMO Team meetings and M&M conferences regularly.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Licensed Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) credential within 6 months of entry.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in pediatrics.
  • Experience in ECMO and respiratory therapy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a BCH Respiratory Therapist or one year of external ECMO experience.

Schedule

36 hours per week with rotating day and night shifts, including every third weekend. Shift differentials apply.

Pay

$95,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year, plus a $20,000 sign-on bonus.
