Echocardiography Technologist PRN Float

About the Role

The Echocardiography Technologist PRN performs diagnostic echocardiography exams, responds to patient questions, maintains confidentiality of personal health information, and handles all associated paperwork. This role may involve working under the direct medical supervision of a physician during certain procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs all echocardiography procedures in accordance with department policies and regulatory requirements.
• Assists cardiologists with ultrasound-guided Echo Stress Tests.
• Communicates procedure details to patients and answers their questions.
• Maintains patient rights, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Documents and maintains all required department records.
• Performs quality control testing as required.
• Assists in transporting patients and provides orientation/training to new sonographers.
• Produces high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring excellent patient care.
• Monitors patient well-being during exams and takes appropriate action if issues arise.
• Understands ultrasound instrumentation, data generation, and potential bio-effects of ultrasound exposure.
• Checks patient history, obtains signed waivers if necessary, and consults with radiologists to determine appropriate scanning procedures.
• Completes all paperwork and exam reports, and responds to physician inquiries regarding procedures.
• Maintains cleanliness and readiness of ultrasound exam rooms and supplies.
• Handles sensitive situations (e.g., fetal demise, cancerous pathology) with empathy and professionalism.
• Manages patient schedules, accommodates add-on patients, and communicates delays.
• Exercises sound judgment regarding image quality and seeks radiologist guidance when needed.
• Releases patients with proper follow-up information and manages patient library, films, and CDs.
• Participates in projects and completes other tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Current ARRT(S), ARDMS certifications, or ARDMS Registry Eligible.
• RDCS or RCS certification required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• CPR certification.
• Maintains licensure, continuing education, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Ability to interact professionally with diverse populations regardless of background.
• Familiarity with specialized medical equipment.
• Ability to respond calmly to emergency situations.
• Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work effectively with doctors, patients, and staff.

Physical Demands

• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching.
• Ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally.
• Participates in lift assistance for patients requiring special accommodation.

Pay

$42–$50 per hour.
