About the Role

The Echo Cardiac Sonographer performs diagnostic echocardiographic procedures as ordered, demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct comprehensive non-invasive cardiovascular studies for patients of all ages. The role involves assessing patient conditions, completing accurate measurements, and preparing procedure worksheets for physician interpretation. The sonographer interacts professionally with physicians, nursing units, and patients, and continuously updates their understanding of evolving field practices, disease processes, and new procedures.

The individual must understand principles of growth and development across the lifespan, assess patient data, and interpret age-specific needs to provide appropriate care in accordance with unit policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic echocardiographic procedures as ordered.
  • Assess the need for additional information based on patient condition.
  • Complete accurate measurements and procedure worksheets for physician interpretation.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with physicians, nursing units, and patients.
  • Continuously increase knowledge of the field, disease processes, and new procedures.
  • Demonstrate understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
  • Assess and interpret patient data to meet age-specific care requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP or CMA approved school of ultrasound or Echo technology education program, and considered registry eligible by the ARDMS.
  • OR Graduate of a patient-care related two-year allied health education program, and considered registry eligible by the ARDMS.
  • OR Associates or Bachelor's Degree, and considered registry eligible by the ARDMS.
  • Medical and/or hospital clinical experience.

Qualifications

  • ARDMS Registered (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Registered.
  • BLS certification completed prior to starting in the department/unit and maintained thereafter.

Preferred Experience

  • Basic computer experience demonstrated by either 1 to 2 years of work experience or college-level courses.
  • One-year hospital experience in cardiac ultrasound.

Location: Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital, Murphy, NC. This is a temporary position with standard hours.
