East Campus Tutor, Multiple Subjects 2026-2027 - Temporary, Part-Time
About the Role
Working in the Learning Center, the successful candidate will assist students in developing comprehension in subject coursework and improve study skills and habits. Tutoring is provided through one-on-one sessions, group sessions, or embedded in classes. Tutors are trained and certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC). All tutors are required to attain Level I certification within one year of being hired.
Subjects needed may include: CIS (Programming), Engineering, Mathematics (through calculus), Accounting, Chemistry (through Organic), Biology, and Physics. Candidates with experience in multiple subjects are preferred.
This is a part-time temporary position with a work schedule that may include evenings and weekends. The hourly rate is based on certification level.
This posting establishes a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 months to a year, and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment.
Responsibilities
- Assist students by providing instructional tutoring and assistance with basic concepts, specific problems, homework, test preparation, and effective use of textbooks and instructional materials in both virtual and in-person environments.
- Provide students with appropriate and effective study skills to increase their academic success and independence both online and in person.
- Offer encouragement and support in areas such as self-confidence, study habits, and time management.
- Report any problems or concerns with equipment or materials to Learning Center personnel.
- Establish effective and cooperative relationships with a diverse student and employee population.
Requirements
- Proven classroom excellence (grade A or B) in the subject(s) to be tutored.
- Written faculty recommendation for the subject(s) to be tutored or vetting of content knowledge.
- Completion of CRLA Level 1 certification within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior tutoring experience.
- Experience in multiple subjects.
