Earth Science: Remote Sensing and Modeling of Surface Water Processes
About the role
The Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center is seeking a post-doc candidate in the area of surface water hydrology. The new candidate will work with other members of the Lab toward the developing a comprehensive understanding and modeling capability of surface water storage (liquid and frozen) and stream discharge over a wide range of scales, using remote sensing. This may also include experience or interests in modeling estuaries, as well as heat, mass, and chemical transport modeling for inland and coastal water applications. Familiarity with data assimilation techniques is also desired.
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply models to understand and predict surface water storage and discharge over various spatial and temporal scales using remote sensing data.
- Collaborate with other researchers on interdisciplinary projects related to surface water processes.
- Contribute to the advancement of NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, and related fields through innovative research.
- Write and submit research proposals for funding opportunities.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in Earth Science, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or a closely related field.
- Experience with remote sensing data analysis and modeling of surface water processes.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python or R.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Qualifications
- Passionate about advancing scientific knowledge in Earth Science and related fields.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in applying theoretical knowledge to practical problems in environmental science.
Skills
- Data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Programming skills (Python, R).
- Remote sensing data processing and analysis.
- Modeling and simulation skills.
