About the role
The Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center seeks a post-doc candidate in hydrologic application of remotely sensed precipitation. The Lab specializes in ground and space-based observation and modeling of soil moisture, snow, precipitation, and terrestrial water storage. The ideal candidate will have experience in remote sensing of rainfall and/or snowfall, and interests in evaluating precipitation products, developing spatial downscaling methods, and contributing to hydrologic applications of GPM data.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate numerous regional to global scale precipitation products
- Develop methods for spatial downscaling of precipitation data from these products within numerical models of land surface hydrology processes
- Contribute to hydrologic applications of GPM data
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in Earth Science, Hydrology, Meteorology, or a related field
- Experience with remote sensing of rainfall and/or snowfall
- Interest in evaluating precipitation products and developing spatial downscaling methods
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python or R
- Experience with numerical modeling of land surface hydrology processes
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), or eligibility for an Exchange Visitor J-1 visa status
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Skills
- Remote Sensing
- Hydrology
- Programming (Python/R)
- Numerical Modeling
