About the role
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of research projects focusing on the application of Earth information to enhance decision support across various impact sectors and applications, particularly related to agriculture/food security, urban impacts, and ecosystem/wildlife services.
- Assess current vulnerabilities to extreme weather events and emerging challenges from climate change using weather and climate model outputs.
- Collaborate with impact sector models such as the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) to generate useful information for decision-makers.
- Utilize high-performance computational resources, machine learning, and statistical methods to elevate impacts research.
- Work on projects related to the nexus of water and agriculture, and risk management for suburban landscapes.
Requirements
- A Doctoral Degree.
Qualifications
- Experience with Earth information, including in situ and remotely-sensed observations, and climate and weather model outputs.
- Knowledge of methods to generate useful information for decision-makers and impact sector models.
- Experience with high-performance computational resources, machine learning, and statistical methods.
- Interest in assessing current vulnerabilities to extreme weather events and emerging challenges from climate change.
- Ability to work collaboratively with impact sector models and contribute to the development of new research projects.
