Earth Science: Cryospheric Sciences Research
About the role
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Description
This opportunity is closed to applicants who are Senior Fellows (5-years or more past PhD).
Our research centers on understanding the dynamics and thermodynamics of the sea ice, ice sheets, glaciers, and snow of the Earth (the cryosphere) and the interactions of the cryosphere with the Earth's atmosphere and ocean.
- Understanding the current state of the cryosphere and how it is changing
- Determining the mechanisms that control those changes
- Examining how these changes impact the rest of the Earth System
The work involves the collection and analysis of in situ, aircraft, and satellite observations along with the development and use of sophisticated models to characterize the behavior of snow and ice and understand the processes at work.
