About the role

The Earth Observations Research Program at GISS utilizes global measurements to understand the Earth system and interactions among its components, focusing on long-term processes and multi-platform, multi-sensor data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Analyze cloud, aerosol, water vapor, trace gas, and isotope data obtained during campaigns and complemented by satellite measurements.
• Calibrate and validate satellite-based measurements using ground-based and campaign data.
• Develop techniques to infer global cloud properties from satellite radiance measurements as part of the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project.
• Contribute to scientific research, modeling, synthesis, and diagnostic analysis to quantify change, characterize processes, and examine function within the Earth System over time with an emphasis on interannual and decadal scales.

Requirements

• A doctoral degree in Earth Science or a related field.
• Experience with analyzing multi-platform, multi-sensor radiance and polarization data sets.
• Knowledge of techniques to infer global cloud properties from satellite radiance measurements.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
