About the role

WCAP is seeking Classroom Substitutes to work in our Head Start classrooms. Our Early Childhood Program serves children and families in Waldo County from birth to age five, including pregnant mothers. Services are delivered through a home visiting model, pre-K collaborations with area school districts, and our centers in Belfast and Searsport.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Teacher and other staff members in a cooperative manner.
  • Aid in planning and implementing a daily program that meets the needs of groups of children.
  • Greet children on arrival and departures.
  • Assist children with learning the process of dressing and undressing themselves.
  • Supervise activities in the classroom environment.
  • Assist children with hygiene activities such as handwashing and toothbrushing.
  • Support mealtimes by eating with the children and encouraging conversations and table manners.
  • Maintain safety of children at all times by close, active supervision.
  • Share observations on children as requested by the Teacher.
  • Recognize and report signs of illness and other concerns to the Teacher.
  • Show flexibility and cooperation while working in the center.
  • Keep accurate time sheets and submit them to the supervisor for payroll purposes.
  • Maintain appropriate requirements for Maine Child Care Licensing and Head Start Standards.
  • Follow weekly menus and prepare meals according to menus to meet CACFP and Head Start regulations.
  • Purchase and/or pick up food and non-food supplies as necessary to meet menu requirements.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen, storage, and serving areas on a daily basis.
  • Wash and sanitize utensils and dishes thoroughly.
  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance, including closed-toed shoes, restrained hair, and a clean apron.
  • Participate in Substitute Teacher Training and Refresher courses.
  • Maintain qualifications for this position as required by Head Start and state child care licensing regulations.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Pass a physical examination and TB screening.
  • Adequate transportation, valid driver's license, and meet WCAP's insurance requirements.
  • Meet WCAP’s background clearance requirements.
  • Valid Criminal Record History Check (CHRC) through DOE.
  • Experience and skills in participating in Substitute Teacher Training and Refresher courses.
  • Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Benefits

  • Sign on Incentive of $1,000 Available – $200 payable after successful completion of 90 days, $300 after 6 months, and $500 after 1 year.
  • Monthly Early Childhood Educator Workforce Salary Supplement available, ranging from $240 to $540/month, dependent on current Maine Roads to Quality tier.

Pay

$16.00/hr
