Position Description
SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION
Position Title: Early Childhood Family & Community Engagement Specialist
Department/Building: Early Childhood / Community Education / Warrior Early Learning Center and other district early childhood sites as assigned
Reports to: Early Learning Principal
Schedule: Full Time, 10 months or 12 months (determined based on program need)
Compensation: $48,184-$59,080 (dependent upon work experience, etc.)
SECTION II: JOB GOAL / SUMMARY
The Early Childhood Specialist supports Brainerd Public Schools' early childhood programs by strengthening family engagement, coordinating outreach and communication, supporting developmental screening and enrollment efforts, assisting with community partnerships and family events, and providing operational support for program implementation.
This position serves as a key connection point between families, community partners, and district early childhood services to help ensure children and families have access to welcoming, high-quality early learning opportunities and support.
SECTION III: QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Human Services, Communications, Social Work, Business/Office Administration, or related field preferred
- Experience working with young children, families, schools, community organizations, or early childhood programs preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple timelines and responsibilities
- Experience with Google Workspace, spreadsheets, social media platforms, Canva or similar tools, and basic office systems preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications and records
- Ability to build positive relationships with families, staff, and community partners
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between district buildings and community locations as needed preferred
SECTION IV: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Family Engagement & Family Support
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact for families seeking information about early childhood programs and services
- Support families in understanding available early childhood opportunities including preschool, ECFE, early childhood screening, child care, school readiness, and related district services
- Help connect families with school and community resources that support child development, school readiness, and family well-being
- Aid in family communication, follow-up, and navigation of next steps related to registration, screening, enrollment, or services
- Outreach, Marketing & Communication
- Develop and coordinate outreach activities that promote early childhood programs, enrollment opportunities, developmental screenings, and family events
- Create, schedule, and maintain public-facing communication including ParentSquare messaging, social media content, flyers, newsletters, website updates, and promotional materials in alignment with district expectations
- Aid in enrollment and recruitment campaigns for early childhood programming
- Ensure communication is family-friendly, accurate, welcoming, and aligned with district branding and messaging
- Early Childhood Screening & Enrollment Support
- Career coordination and support planning, scheduling, and implementation of early childhood developmental screening clinics
- Aid in screening registration, reminders, family communication, materials, room setup, flow, and follow-up documentation
- Help ensure screening records and processes are organized, timely, and aligned with district and state requirements
- Aid in outreach efforts to increase screening participation and timely completion
- Aid in preschool and early childhood registration support as assigned
- Events & Community Partnerships
- Coordinate and support family events, open houses, registration events, outreach activities, and community engagement opportunities
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, childcare providers, libraries, healthcare partners, and other family-serving agencies
- Represent the district's early childhood programs at community events and outreach opportunities as assigned
- Aid in volunteer coordination, materials, setup, and event logistics
- Operational & Program Support
- Support operational tasks related to early childhood programming including purchasing requests, billing support, supply ordering, tracking of materials, and documentation
- Maintain organized records related to outreach, events, screenings, and family engagement efforts
- Aid in data collection and reporting related to participation, communication efforts, screening completion, and program support activities
- Participate in planning discussions, team meetings, and continuous improvement efforts
SECTION VI: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to move materials, event supplies, and screening resources as needed
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting/carrying materials, and computer use

SECTION VII: WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Primarily in-person at early childhood program locations and district sites
- Regular interaction with families, children, staff, and community partners
- May involve travel between district buildings and community locations
- Occasional evening events, screenings, or outreach activities may be required
- This is a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and public contact
