About the role

The Cyert Center at Carnegie Mellon University is a full-day early care and education program serving the children of our faculty, staff and students. Founded in 1971, we have grown from a program of 13 children to our current enrollment of 290 children across two centers. We are currently hiring Early Childhood Educators to join the Cyert Center.

Responsibilities

  • Educating and caring for young children, encouraging their individual growth and development.
  • Organizing a cohesive program and communicating the Center’s philosophy (Reggio Emilia Approach and Developmentally Appropriate Practice).
  • Assisting in creating a curriculum that uses inquiry-based teaching strategies with an emphasis on collaborative learning.
  • Adhering to The Department of Human Services licensing regulations and The National Association for the Education of Young Children’s accreditation standards.
  • Developing regular, ongoing, two-way communication with parents about children’s experiences, development, and learning, and participating in planning, organization, and dialogue/presentation for parent meetings.
  • Committing to best practices and continued professional development and growth, earning twenty-four (24) hours of required professional development annually.
  • Adapting to an interesting and challenging work environment, demonstrating adaptability, excellence, and passion.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, psychology, elementary education, special education, or related field OR
  • A bachelor’s degree, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or related field and 1 year of experience with children OR
  • An associate’s degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children OR
  • An associate’s degree, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children

Requirements

  • Full range of body motion needed, and change positions/ have the mobility to interact with young children.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam (including TB test) for clearance to meet the physical requirements listed above.

  • Sponsorship : Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.
  • Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
  • This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position.
