About the role
The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher is responsible for planning and assisting lead instructors with daily activities designed for 2-3 year old children and 3-4 year old children. The ideal candidate will be able to include educational, creative art, play and movement experiences with limited supervision.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Lead Instructor in determining weekly themes that promote child-led play experiences and foster child development.
- Work with the Lead Instructor in planning, preparing, and implementing age-appropriate games, activities, and art sessions.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages learning through play and exploration.
- Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being during indoor and outdoor activities, snack time, and field trips.
- Maintain an organized and sanitary classroom.
- Aid in maintaining an organized and sanitary classroom.
- Aid in tracking inventory of supplies and submitting requests as needed.
- Develop and maintain harmonious relationships and open communication among participants, parents, staff, and school administrative staff.
- Enforce security procedures regarding attendance and pick-up policies.
- Aid in planning and coordinating special event days, local field trips, and guest speakers during the school year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication Skills.
- Candidate must be at least 18 years old and have at least one year in a classroom setting.
- High School Graduate with coursework in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, related field or prior experience.
- Experience working with children 2-5 years old.
- Special knowledge of children's physical, emotional and developmental patterns.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
- Understand and exhibit behavior consistent with stated values of the park district.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, AED Certification (provided by the park district).
Pay
$16.00+ per hour depending on qualifications. Hourly salary can be applied to periodic meetings with parents and supervisors including the preseason, mid-season, and post-season meetings to review proposed curriculum, progress and evaluation.
Schedule/Time Frame
Hours: 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
