Description

General Responsibilities: Teach Early Childhood Development classes within the Early Care and Education department. Maintain high level of excellence in teaching by communicating and interacting effectively with students enrolled in courses within the program area. Prepare materials needed for course instruction and testing. Keep student records and adhere to course schedule. Use learning management systems to communicate with students, faculty and staff. Participate in the collection of student learning outcomes. Assist the Earl Care and Education program director with timely notification of any shortfall in supplies.

  • Provide high quality instruction, teach courses as assigned, provide students with course documentation, demonstrate effective interaction skills, relate instruction/materials to course objectives, develop creative class activities, use various teaching techniques, organize instruction.
  • Provide academic advising, assist with recruitment, develop and implement successful retention activities, assist in graduate placement, assist in student orientation/registration, provide appropriate safety instruction.
  • Manage classroom/lab, clinic activities in an orderly manner, hold 8 office hours per week, submit all required reports in a timely manner, prepare budget projections for equipment and supplies, practice good housekeeping, repair equipment as appropriate.
  • Design new programs, revise curricula, develop new courses, develop and revise instructional materials for current courses, participate in advisory committees.
  • Work on college committees, perform public service for the college, supervise/chaperon student events, promote the purpose and institutional objections of the college, build rapport with employers of graduates.

Typical Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements: Doctor's or master's degree in the teaching discipline or master's degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
  • Preferred Requirements: Prefer a master's degree with 18 hours in Early Childhood Education. Professional certification in a Program for infant and Toddler Care; two years' relevant work experience and/or teaching experience. Teaching experience in a post-secondary educational environment preferred.

Supplemental Information

Anticipated Hours: Thirty-Seven and a half hours (37.5) per week.
