About the role

To clean all assigned areas in accordance with department policies and procedures and provide a safe, clean, and attractive environment for all patients, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Exercises appropriate age-specific communication and interaction skills when dealing with customers, patients, and families (e.g., courtesy, smiling, locking cleaning carts to prevent children from accessing chemicals).
  • Selects cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment and transports them to the work area.
  • Cleans assigned areas including furniture, floors, fixtures, restrooms, sinks, tubs, showers, curtains, equipment, ledges, walls, doors and frames, vents, televisions, windows and frames, carpets, baseboards, corners, edges, desks, countertops, phones, water fountains, ice machines, elevators, and stairwells.
  • Follows Environmental Services/Sodexo Shine cleaning procedures and infection control protocols and standards.
  • Cleans and disinfects beds and cribs; removes and replaces cubicle curtains.
  • Transports beds, cribs, and furniture as needed.
  • Cleans spills, broken glass, body fluids, and large volumes of water.
  • Performs floor care including extracting/shampooing carpets, spot removing stains, buffing floors, stripping/scrubbing, and refinishing floors.
  • Performs daily and discharge cleaning of patient rooms, including terminal cleaning of isolation rooms.
  • Performs daily cleaning of offices, ancillary areas, public areas, and restrooms.
  • Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissues, and hand soap; returns unused supplies to the janitor’s closet.
  • Cleans cart, equipment, and janitor closets at the end of the shift.
  • Reports needed repairs and safety hazards.
  • Adjusts schedule to meet department needs and changes.
  • Collects, transports, and disposes of regular wastes, infectious wastes, and recycled wastes.
  • Adheres to infection control guidelines and demonstrates knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performs all "STAT" cleaning requests without delay.
  • Adheres to hospital and department attendance, health, and educational requirements.
  • Attends department meetings and in-services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Fire Plan, Disaster Plan, and other DCH codes.
  • Communicates with supervisors on areas needing clarification or guidance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education; or up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
