About the Role
Plans layout, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment. The journey electrician is a troubleshooter for electrical problems. Work is identified through print interpretation. Will measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender. Measures, cuts, splices, and installs cable trays and wire trays. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connects wiring to power equipment, such as electrical motors, switch gears, transformers, and air switches. Tests continuity of circuits using equipment such as an ohmmeter or an oscilloscope. May repair faulty equipment or systems.

- Carry and deliver materials
- Install, repair, and maintain various electrical wiring systems and equipment
- Use measuring equipment and hand tools to perform conduit work
- Follow safety codes and building regulations
- Diagnose basic problems using basic tools and equipment
- Report unsafe conditions and practices
- Perform only those jobs on which you have been trained and/or authorized
Requirements
- Able to diagnose basic problems using basic tools and equipment
- Basic knowledge of NEC electrical codes
- Eagerness to learn electrical schematics and blueprint reading skills
- Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
- Plan work and select proper tools
- Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions
- Works under immediate supervision
- Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment
- Typically reports to a supervisor or manager
