Description
This scope of work for this electrical engineering position includes overseeing and contributing to large-scale renewable projects. As a project engineer, this person will be responsible for providing electrical expertise, with a focus on evaluating project drawings and handling requests for information (RFIs) across multiple projects. Project Overview includes Large solar and wind projects near Earth, TX. A typical day for this electrical engineering position will vary based on the project activities.
- Submittals and RFI's will focus on collaborating with other engineers and project stakeholders to ensure all requirements are clearly outlined.
- Evaluating drawings, studies, and analyses.
- Clarifying details about the design or construction process.
- Addressing any electrical engineering-related questions team members may have about the project.
- For construction activities, the day will be more in-person, assisting team members by addressing any electrical engineering-related questions they may have about the project.
- The overall responsibilities will vary from planning/reviewing to providing direct support during the construction.
- This resource will work with our other engineers on the project to be able to understand/interpret design drawings and managing the compliance of the construction to the design drawings and managing RFI requests.
- The engineer will be supporting a multifunctional group that includes various internal business units and external stakeholders.
- This position will primarily collaborate with facility operations and other internal departments, such as Siting and Land Rights: To coordinate on land-use matters, especially for projects involving land development, such as renewable installations.
- Environmental Teams: Due to the nature of large-scale utility projects, collaboration will be necessary to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Some of the Key Players will be Internal Stakeholders: Facility operations, siting and land rights, environmental teams, Supply Chain, and other project engineers and external entities such as County and State Agencies: Assisting with obtaining local and state permits for large construction projects and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
- This role involves a mix of technical collaboration and regulatory coordination with both internal and external teams.
- This resource will also work with EPC contractors in addition to a Project specific team consisting of project manager and engineers, construction field team, construction managers, and construction/electrical inspectors.
- This resource will also be working with the Project controls cost/scheduling staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school or strong/commensurate experience.
- Professional Engineering license, or Engineering in Training/certification to become a professional engineer is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ProjectWise, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Procore would be helpful to review EPC contractors' drawings (technical review communication tool).
- SAP might be a plus.
- 3+ years of electrical engineering experience with 2-3 years specifically in the renewable generation project space (construction or engineering design).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with strong analytical [thinking] skills to resolve answering questions, troubleshooting design conflicts, etc.
- Organization is key in this role as they will be interfacing with several different teams, tracking and documenting.
- Familiarity with NCRs, RFIs, and the ability to understand and manage the scope of a contract.
- A strong team player with experience preferably in a large matrixed organization which would show proof of the ability to work cross functionally.
- Detail oriented, strong troubleshooting skills to resolve design issues that may come up as the project progresses.
- 3+ years of electrical engineering experience with 2-3 years specifically in the renewable generation project space (construction or engineering design).
- Former experience working with utilities or design firms on renewable technologies.
- Knowledge of how to resolve RFI's and non-conformance requests.
