About the role
E-911 Dispatchers receive emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, rescue, animal and game wardens, and public works. E-911 Dispatchers also receive routine calls for general information. This position reports to the Emergency Communications Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Receives emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, rescue, animal and game wardens, and public works.
- Receives routine calls for general information.
- Assesses calls in a timely fashion, obtaining relevant information.
- Provides necessary emergency medical dispatch instructions to callers experiencing medical crisis.
- Questions complainants to determine the nature and location of the problem and the type of response needed.
- Handles all types of callers, including those who are pleasant, irate, hysterical, bizarre, fanatical, or displaying other adverse attitudes, with poise, grace, and professionalism while maintaining control of the call.
- Monitors radio traffic and maintains the status of each unit.
- Communicates regularly with other jurisdictions and agencies.
- Handles confidential information with care and concern.
- Makes notifications at field units' requests (e.g., wreckers).
- Reports to work in any weather conditions (snow, hail, etc.).
- May be called in to work during disasters, staffing problems, or storms.
- Operates various equipment, including CAD, VCIN/NCIC, Telecommunications Device for the Deaf, Motorola radio, Vesta Pallas phone system, and other equipment.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must pass a background investigation.
- Must pass a drug test upon being hired.

Working conditions
- Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, including some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of light-weight objects and materials.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Pay
Starting salary: $43,000.
