The Work You Will Do
- Comprehensive and specialized assessments of skill levels and service needs.
- Development of individual employment plans to identify the employment goals, appropriate achievement objectives, and an appropriate combination of services for the participant to achieve the employment goals.
- Group career counseling.
- Individual counseling and career planning.
- Short-term pre-vocational services that may include the development of learning, communication, and interviewing skills, MOS conversion for resume assistance, punctuality, personal maintenance skills, and professional conduct to prepare individuals for unsubsidized employment or training.
- Career outreach to local organizations, such as local colleges, technical training centers, apprenticeship programs, and community-based (non-profit - including faith-based organizations), to educate the organizations serving Veterans on how to identify veterans with Qualifying Barriers to Employment, and to assist and refer veterans to the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialists located at the Career Centers for services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to promote and market the Career Center.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in individual and group settings, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of the basic principles of counseling and case management.
- Working knowledge/experience using Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Skilled in group presentations, workshop instruction, and/or facilitation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous, and effective manner.
- Ability to conduct effective interviews.
- Ability to listen effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating work assignments.
Qualifications
- Applicants must submit the required military documentation prior to closure of the job announcement.
- Satisfactorily complete Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) training with the National Veterans Training Institute (NVTI)) within 18 months of employment.
- Minimum education requirement: Degree in public administration, business administration, Social Services, or related field, plus three (1-3) years’ experience in administration, management, or other related business services; this work may substitute for years of education.
- Required certifications: Possess or be able to obtain certification as a Workforce Professional Tier 1 within 30 days of employment in the position.
- Work schedule: Required to work some weekends or after regular work hours at job fairs or community meetings (once or twice per month).
- Travel: Required to travel locally and must furnish own transportation.
