Duty-Free Teacher Assistant (Grades: EC-5)

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting intensified learning experience for students in assigned area and relieves teacher of various non-instructional duties
• Assist teacher in the management of student arrival and departure time
• Perform supportive tasks for a certified teacher that is primarily non‑instructional in nature
• Assist teacher and students in achieving the objectives of the program or activities
• Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher
• Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow‑up learning activity
• Assist in filing, organizing materials for distribution and recording information
• Assist in maintaining student records, attendance and files
• Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
• Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position

Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or pass an academic assessment
• Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification
• Proficient in basic communication techniques and language
• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public
• Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must possess good writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and employees
• Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
• Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession

Pay

Minimum Salary: $27,854.00; Median Salary: $34,826.00

Work Location: Douglass Elementary

Work Environment: Noise level is usually moderate; travel throughout the district is integral; remote work is not an option for campus‑based employees.
