Dump Truck Driver

Rogers Group, Inc., headquartered in Nashville, is a privately held aggregates and asphalt highway construction company operating in 13 states with over 3,500 employees. Established in 1908, RGI is the largest privately held aggregate producer in the United States. The CDL Dump Truck Driver position is based out of the Rutherford Quarry in Murfreesboro, TN and reports to the trucking superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Drives truck equipped with dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock, or bituminous paving materials.
• Performs pre‑trip inspections: checks tires, lights, fluids, belts, wipers, and ensures vehicle is safe to operate.
• Operates vehicle safely and professionally, obeying state/federal trucking laws, weight limits, and defensive driving practices.
• Manages load tarping and strapping, operates dump bed and third‑axle controls, hooks and adjusts tailgate spreader chains.
• Cleans tailgate and apron after unloading, keeps dump bed free of material buildup.
• Uses proper gear shifting (lower gears when starting, double‑clutching when changing).
• Monitors dash gauges, mirrors, and company radio for dispatch changes.
• Maintains daily logs and truck reports per company, state, and federal regulations; reports defects and does not drive with known defects.
• Performs manual labor as needed: leg movement, clutch/brake/accelerator operation, climbing onto bed, wrist/arm movement, neck movement, cleaning tailgate, assisting crews with shoveling or general labor.
• Adheres to company, client, and project policies, procedures, and safety manuals.
• Physical requirements: regularly lift/move up to 25 lb, frequently up to 50 lb, occasionally up to 100 lb; requires close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and color recognition of traffic signals; occasional exposure to moving parts, fumes, outside weather, vibration; moderate noise level; may work long hours (average 10‑12 hrs/day, up to 15 hrs).

Qualifications

• Valid CDL license.
• Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate per company policy.
• Minimum of 2 years truck driving experience (preferred).
• Experience with trucks equipped with a third axle.
• Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to get along with others; displays a positive attitude and presents a professional image.
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful traffic or other situations.
• Ability to work evenings and nights as needed to support construction operations.

Pay

Wages start at $23.00 per hour.

Schedule

Full‑time position with normal work hours averaging 10 to 12 hours per day; conditions may require up to 15 hours to complete a project.
