About the Role

The Due Diligence Consultant will conduct initial and ongoing due diligence analysis of investment offerings and ad hoc and routine research on investment-related topics (e.g., philosophies, market & economic conditions, performance, product types, competition). Additional responsibilities include the periodic delivery and review of aggregated information via data entry & automation (e.g., performance reporting, due diligence summaries), managing short-term due diligence projects, and projects that may have a long-term, broad impact across the company.

The Team

The Advisory & Risk Oversight team has varied backgrounds and experience in the industry but shares a developed business acumen, agility to switch between support and analytical work, and strong communication skills delivered both internally and externally. The team balances investment expertise, core support for advisors’ practices, and participation in ongoing internal oversight initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assess investment managers’ operational infrastructure, governance models, philosophy, process, resources, and performance.
  • Provide findings and/or recommendations to senior management in written form and via investment committee presentations.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and oversight of investment managers and external service providers.
  • Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders within MML Investor Services, LLC and other cross-functional business partners.
  • Maintain and improve standard work, policies/procedures, and process workflows.
  • Lead ad-hoc projects such as research on investment categories, vehicle types, emerging trends, supporting processes, technology enhancements, and serve as a subject matter expert in a consultative role to various departments.
  • Consult with other departments to help them understand an investment product’s features, benefits, and risks, highlighting specific areas of concern.

Impact

  • Enhance investment oversight by evaluating managers, monitoring performance, and delivering findings to stakeholders.
  • Improve due diligence processes by refining workflows, policies, and driving program enhancements.
  • Serve as a cross-functional subject matter expert through reporting, advisory support, and leading ad hoc initiatives (e.g., fees, technology).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of experience working with investment products and asset classes—including alternatives, SMAs, mutual funds, variable annuities, etc.—or 3+ years of experience in investment operations with prior due diligence experience.
  • 2+ years of experience using Microsoft Office products.
  • 1+ year of experience with Morningstar, Bloomberg, and/or other investment databases.
  • Must pass a non-registered fingerprint background check to qualify as a fingerprinted person under FINRA.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • CFA designation or currently pursuing.
  • Prior due diligence experience with various complex and alternative investment products.
  • Independent, analytical, detail-oriented individual who can balance the needs of multiple projects in various stages of completion.
  • Demonstrated success in a process-driven environment.
  • Previous experience presenting findings to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to directly address concerns/conflicts and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Adaptability and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Recognition of patterns and trends in data operations and identifying opportunities for improving processes and systems.
