About the role

The role of Adjunct Faculty at Texas Southmost College involves working on a limited basis to fulfill the institution's mission, vision, values, and goals of providing quality education to all students. The relationship between the adjunct faculty and the student is that of a leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning. They report directly to the College President and are accountable to the College's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Strive for continual improvement of student success by planning an optimal learning environment, providing high-quality instruction, and participating in the development of learning outcomes and assessment of students.
  • Manage learning environments by ensuring accurate syllabi, maintaining attendance records, submitting grades, and providing constructive feedback to students.
  • Deliver effective instruction by assuming primary responsibility for curriculum development, considering individual differences of students, and using the College’s digital learning solution to meet course objectives.
  • Enhance the student’s learning experience by integrating real-life situations, developing academic literacy, and collaborating with students and employers in occupational settings.
  • Achieve continual improvement in teaching activities by developing and revising curriculum as needed and using defined student learning outcomes to plan, document, and evaluate teaching activities.
  • Promote institutional effectiveness by understanding and preparing for Student Learning Outcome (SLO) evaluations, completing mandatory performance evaluation measures, and supporting the College’s strategic plan.
  • Maintain a learning-centered environment by being available to students during the designated work period and supporting their academic and personal development.
  • Support student learning by referring students to appropriate student and academic support services and promoting positive morale and teamwork within the functional unit.
  • Participate in discipline-specific activities and pursue professional development to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Handle sensitive and extensive confidential information and maintain a high-tech all-digital environment.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and possess a valid teaching certificate or license. Experience in higher education is preferred but not required. Candidates should also be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends, as needed.

  • Dual Credit Adjunct Faculty, History: Estimated $74,898 per year
