About the Role

Hands-on supervisory position responsible for the daily operation of the laundry department. Key focus areas include scheduling and directing laundry staff, ensuring proper machine loading and chemical usage, maintaining linen flow and productivity, and ensuring clean linen is returned to its correct location.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all laundry equipment each morning for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Ensure the workspace is clean, organized, and ready at the start of each shift.
  • Attend and lead daily pre-shift meetings with laundry staff.
  • Review the training standard of the week with the laundry staff.
  • Maintain a steady flow of linen processing, achieving productivity standards while keeping linens from different properties separate.
  • Enforce quality controls to ensure linens are clean, neatly folded, and properly softened.
  • Use a scale to avoid overloading washer and dryer machines.
  • Work alongside laundry staff to process and fold linen during shifts.
  • Prepare schedules and calculate laundry demand based on anticipated occupancy; forward schedules to the Executive Housekeeper for approval.
  • Complete daily reports on laundry loads, poundage processed, man-hours consumed, and productivity; review results with the Executive Housekeeper and staff.
  • Ensure all linen carts are clean, in good repair, and forwarded to Engineering for timely repairs when needed.
  • Initiate supply and cleaning chemical orders through the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Enforce the company’s uniform, name-tag, and grooming standards.
  • Handle recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of laundry staff with Executive Housekeeper approval.
  • Train all laundry staff on department and job-specific skills.
  • Responsible for employee coaching, counseling, discipline, and termination as needed, with Executive Housekeeper approval.
  • Provide input for the department’s annual budget formation.
  • Maintain neat, clean, and orderly storage areas and participate in monthly linen inventories.
  • Ensure all department employees receive timely and comprehensive training.
  • Monitor and perform minor repairs on laundry equipment and ensure regularly scheduled maintenance is performed.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of chemical usage, formulas, and their effects on linen.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and clearly in both written and verbal English.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs, including pushing, pulling, or lifting heavy loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push and/or pull wheeled racks and carts weighing up to 150 lbs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a hotel or hospital laundry/housekeeping environment.
