About the Role
Direct Support Professional Supervisors work as part of an interdisciplinary team (clinical staff, nurses, families, advocates, etc.) providing services to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Under the direction of an Assistant Director/Program Director/Regional Program Director, they oversee and direct services that enrich the lives of individuals. The mission is to help individuals live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
Direct Support Professional Supervisors ensure compliance with state and OPWDD regulations as well as agency policies and procedures. They hire, train, and supervise direct care staff to ensure quality delivery of services, including personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, and health maintenance. They also manage program operations, budget, scheduling, staff development, and physical plant maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and works alongside Direct Support Professionals in a residential setting supporting individuals with varying diagnoses.
- Collaborates with Human Resources and DSP Administrators to promote staff recruitment, selection, hiring, retention, training, and professional development.
- Tracks direct care staff’s training due dates to ensure compliance with no lapse.
- Completes staff performance agreements aligned with Core Competencies, provides performance feedback, and initiates progressive discipline as needed.
- Creates, reviews, and ensures the implementation of service plans.
- Ensures high-quality rehabilitative services and person-centered activities are planned and conducted in accordance with service plans.
- Meets with individuals’ circle of support to address programming needs and problem-solve concerns.
- Ensures the program operates efficiently and within budget specifications.
- Ensures staff complete documentation thoroughly and timely for maximum billing.
- Ensures the safety of all individuals and team members.
- Coordinates routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and physical plant.
- Leads program operations to achieve quality of care and efficiency while maintaining regulatory standards.
- Reports and resolves incidents and compliance issues in a timely manner.
- Maintains up-to-date individual charts and ensures documents are scanned and filed appropriately.
- Promotes customer satisfaction and participates in the agency’s on-call rotation, responding to emergencies as needed.
- Completes program staffing schedules and ensures appropriate coverage.
- Reviews and approves staff timesheets using technology.
- Organizes, multitasks, and prioritizes duties efficiently.
- Provides personalized interactions with individuals to ensure high-quality services.
- Acts professionally, communicates effectively, completes required training, and attends relevant meetings.
- Maintains a valid, unrestricted, insurable driver’s license.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrate all skills and attributes outlined in the NYS DSP Core Competencies.
- Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment with individuals of various abilities.
- Complete all mandatory trainings within the first 90 days and maintain recertifications.
- Professionally and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Understand regulations and document services in real-time using electronic technology.

- Proactively identify, report, and resolve safety/medical concerns.
- Ability to accurately count money and complete basic math and banking transactions.
- Complete training to become AMAP certified and maintain certification without lapse.
- Participate in team meetings and service plan meetings as necessary.
- Ensure service plans are written timely and accurately following life plan meetings.
- Provide person-centered, culturally competent services, including celebration of holidays and attendance at religious services.
- Maintain approved staffing ratios at all times, including weekends and holidays.
- Provide on-call coverage for primary and assigned cluster sites.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of DSPs in a residential setting.
- Ability to access reliable transportation.
- Maintains a valid, unrestricted, insurable driver’s license.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree with one year of experience in the field and at least six months of supervisory experience in the field, or
- Associate’s degree with two years of experience in the field and at least one year of supervisory experience in any field, or
- At least five years of experience in the field and at least two years of supervisory experience in any field, or
- Internal candidate with at least four years of experience in the field.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of performing all SCIP interventions.
- Able to provide hands-on care to individuals with various physical disabilities, including showering, feeding, and physical assistance.
- Ability to perform household cleaning tasks using cleaning supplies.
- Occasional lifting of 25+ pounds, pushing/pulling of 25+ pounds, and reaching/bending to perform duties.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs.
- Ability to participate in light to moderate physical activities.
- Ability to utilize various electronic devices.
- Provide transportation using vehicles ranging from sedans to large passenger vans.
- Exposure to pets may be required at certain sites.
Pay
$62,853 annually
Schedule
40 hours per week, flexible with on-call responsibilities.
