About the Role
The Direct Support Professional V – Home Supervisor (DSP V) provides senior‑level oversight of daily operations and quality programs at a State Supported Living Center (SSLC). The role includes arranging work schedules, supervising DSP staff, ensuring compliance with policies, and maintaining a safe, sanitary environment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Attend work regularly; may work specific, rotating, extended, or overtime shifts and serve on‑call as needed.
- Oversee daily operations and delivery of quality programs on the assigned home.
- Arrange work schedules to ensure adequate supervision and direct‑care coverage; make daily adjustments in collaboration with other DSP Vs.
- Provide leadership, planning, assignment, and supervision of DSP staff; hire, train, coach, and promote professional growth.
- Model and coach DSP IV “Charge” staff to build supervisory skills and ensure effective monitoring of habilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, and mealtime coordination.
- Ensure care, treatment, training, and support activities are completed and documented in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Provide consultation, guidance, and support to staff for working with individuals who exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Maintain a physical presence on the home to ensure safe, sanitary living conditions, proper infection control, health‑care needs, risk‑management compliance, and optimal quality of life.
- Report and document unusual incidents; oversee continuous quality‑improvement activities and recommend operational changes to the Unit Director.
- Guide DSP staff in understanding and implementing program procedures, policies, and Texas Administrative Code (TAC) regulations.
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings, scheduling meetings, morning unit/home meetings, and staff meetings; prepare required reports and documentation.
- Conduct emergency drills (e.g., CPR, fire) and ensure staff understand their roles.
- Administer first aid and perform Safety Utilization of Restraint (SUR) techniques as appropriate.
- Ensure infection‑control and risk‑management policies are correctly implemented; address safety hazards, enter work orders, and teach others to do the same.
- Oversee reporting of significant events (fires, abuse, injuries, unauthorized departures) and review related documentation.
- Serve as Assistant Unit Director/Unit Director in their absence and support disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation as needed.
- Drive a state‑owned vehicle as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Clear verbal and written communication in English.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making in critical incidents.
- Calm, rapid response in emergencies.
- Proper body mechanics, posture, and lifting techniques.
- Strength and flexibility to perform CPR and SUR safely.
- Mastery of basic individual‑care and training techniques.
- Flexibility in handling varied work assignments.
- Knowledge of individual‑care techniques, treatment, therapy, and developmental programs.
- Familiarity with ICF/IID (Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities) standards.
- Ability to provide individual care, administer first aid/CPR, conduct SUR, communicate effectively, and train others.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and as a team member.

Pay
- Salary Range: $4,381.12 – $5,921.16 per month.
- Pay Frequency: Monthly.
- Salary Group: TEXAS‑A‑18.
Schedule
- Shift: Evening (primary); Additional shifts: Days (first), Evenings (second), Nights (third).
- Full‑time, non‑exempt position.
- Telework: Not eligible.
- Travel: Up to 5 %.
- Regular/Temporary: Regular.
