DSP Direct Support Professional - Program Assistant 40 hours
Role Overview
The Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is seeking dedicated, caring, and compassionate individuals to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in group homes. The role of a Direct Support Professional - Program Assistant involves partnering with the Program Director to provide quality services, supervising and training residential counselors, and performing a variety of tasks including meal preparation, activity scheduling, medication management, and communication with healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Partners with the Program Director to provide quality services to the people living in the home, and uphold the agency philosophy in carrying out the day-to-day tasks.
- Supervise and train residential counselors.
- Prepare menus, grocery lists, and food shopping; schedule activities; ensure medications are adequately stocked; communicate with the pharmacy; coordinate fire drills; assist with administrative tasks; participate in training new staff; share on-call responsibilities with the Director and Associate Director.
- Maintain the home’s compliance with agency and governmental standards.
- Document all tasks and maintain records.
Requirements
- One year experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and/or a degree in a related field preferred.
- 18 years of age or older.
- High School/GED diploma.
- A valid (non-provisional) drivers license in the State of New Jersey with no more than 5 points on the license.
- Ability to drive agency vehicles to transport service recipients on a regular basis.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs.
- Motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of residents.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and emergency evacuation procedures.

Full-Time Shift
40 hours per week, rotating shifts: Tuesday 3-11pm, Wednesday 3-11pm, Thursday 2-10pm, Friday 7am-3pm, Saturday 3-11pm.
